To hell with heaven

Why do we think that we’re too good? We observe some things and think that our goodness shall be accorded with the highest ratings in the account book “up there”. We never consider the possibility that there could be a ‘down there’ for us too. :) The fact that we are aware of our “goodness” indicates that there has to be a false dichotomy. Let’s not be the blind men who felt an elephant. There may be very few seats to which perhaps too many “good” people might stake claim and we might find a thug go and win the most coveted trophy as we’ve all too well known in B-School admission procedures. :D

Circus

Nice to get back here. I see that the posts haven't exactly been crashing like before.

I recovered from the 2 months of exam fever day before yesterday and my mind has been exploring various possibilities since then to break free from the cob webs that have surrounded me.
Came up with the first one last night- a trip to Mumbai . And the second idea struck my mind this evening when I saw a hoarding on the road- Watching a circus show.
Wow! The fond but vague memories of childhood sailed across my eyes and I thought, why not?
My dad and I set off and upon reaching the ground we found, not to our surprise, that there weren't too many people queuing up. Bought the best ticket (200 bucks) and struggled through the rush (Yes, however few the number of people may be, there will always be an unwanted scuttle at any place that could do with a peaceful line)
Having heard that there will be snacks and water on the offer inside, we chose not to go in with any food.

Up there were trapezes and the proceedings started in a languid fashion. I started seeing the signs in the first 5 minutes- scantily clad girls jumping around unnecessarily with some horrendous dance moves to complement the insipid music being played.
The trapeze act was decent but for a couple of BIG bloopers. Never mind- that they put in so much and look so graceful is good enough. (Mind you, they look graceful far up there performing those acts- the moment they get down to ground, you wonder how many days must it have been since they last took a bath)
I literally yawned my way through the gymnastics and the dog and parrot shows.
but something that started disturbing me in the gymnastics was the tender age of some of the children in there- some as young as 6 or 7 risking injuries.
And that led me to wonder about the kind of lives these people might be leading.

We bought a water bottle meanwhile and as i opened the seal, I figured out to my horror that water was up to the brim as opposed to the standard filling where it is filled only till the neck of the bottle. Chose not to drink it. (15 bucks)

Then came on the animals-horses, elephants. Gosh! How jarred they looked.
In between, was some constant fueling of proceedings with ridiculously unfunny stuff from the jokers.

Then came on a stunning roller skates performance where the artists had really put their bodies on the line. And there came in again, a thought about CIRCUS.

These people are basically nomads where they literally survive through their days. With the number of people turning up to watch Circus declining by the day, their earning ain't getting any better.
100 odd people to be fed and given pay; one injury and the medical guys give you a tough time. And who can forget the animals, their care. With some good intervention of the animal rights activists and all the restrictions they impose nowadays, the life of the manager clearly isn't bliss.

The children at circus not undergoing any level of schooling gets to you and semi-naked girls hopping around to catch attention is disgusting.

Why do they still do it?
*Perhaps it's still better than begging and living in the slums.
*Perhaps because the security of being in the group. Exploitation is a major issue in our country. And trust me, the girls in there looked like the prostitutes they show in movies.

Whatever it is, the standards are appalling.

I had a throbbing head ache half an hour into the show and through it. We actually left it an hour earlier and still we were among the last to leave. :D

And yes, we also took a pack of Lays (20 bucks) and a Jumpin (15)
Thus we wasted a total of Rs 255, three hours and a water bottle.

I apologized to dad for having suggested the insane idea :D

Looking forward to a cool week in Mumbai now :)

Fifty Three

1. I am a very honest guy and I like honest people. I hate it when people fake it. I'm true at heart and expect others to be true to me too. And I'm not lying!!

2. I am six feet tall( or is it five eleven?)

3. The busiest day of my week is Sunday!

4. I don't have tea. I am a coffee freak. And MILO too ;-)

5. So it makes sense that engineering is not my cup of tea. Because if it is tea it won't be mine:-D

6. I'm a typical Sagittarian which I've mentioned in About Me too. But if you meet me after going through a book that entails a description of Sagittarians, you are not at fault if you believe that it was the first chapter of my Biography.

7. The toughest period of my life till now just went by. And it lasted four and half years; 55 months to be precise. Well it was tough for everyone in my family and it was a learning period too. I don't fancy my life to get any tougher than this (i.e. if it can get any tougher!) Now I am in a rebuilding phase.

8. I would like to believe that I am very intelligent (well an IQ of 140+ is supposed to be intelligent... right?) But I don’t want to be over confident at the same time which unfortunately I can't seem to avoid.

9. I got selected in IIT-JEE 2007 after studying for four months (not in sequence!)

10. And I was in my first year of engineering at that time. Secured 74 percent marks in my first year. Another testimony to my intelligence.

11. I study the least in my class and manage to get in the top ranks.

12. Well I told you I am boastful. Didn't I? But I did tell you that I can't seem to set aside my over confidence.

13. But I couldn't solve the Rubik's cube! *sigh*

14. I can talk the hind legs off a donkey! And I mean it. I can talk nonsense on and on and this has actually saved me a couple of times.

15. Actually I also meant to say that I am a glib communicator.

16. I am a good debater and orator.(which makes sense)

17. My room's in a complete mess. I mean you perhaps can't get a dirtier room with things misplaced and books and clothes strewn here and there. Absolute clutter!!

18. I miss my school friends a lot.

19. I love my family and miss my mom.

20. I spend close to seven hours everyday on the internet.(Gosh!)

43. I just saw the Good Knight refill and I dare say that I'm yet to find an effective mosquito destroyer! Though I've tried using Odomos, I don't fancy smearing it all over before sleeping!*sneer*

44. I believe that a super power exists but I'm not religious. I vist temples because my mother wanted me to and sometime coz I wanted to for my ma.

46. I hail from a very orthodox Brahmin family and I am okay with that :-) In fact that sounds cool to me!
